TRANSLITRU() Description

The TRANSLITRU() function is designed for automatic text conversion from Russian to Latin in Excel (LibreOffice Calc). It preserves the sound of words, replacing Cyrillic characters with corresponding Latin ones. This is convenient for creating Latinized versions of names, titles, or technical data.

Main Features of the TRANSLITRU Function

Syntax:

=TRANSLITRU(Text; [Standard])

Parameters:

• Text: Text in Russian that needs to be transliterated into Latin.
• [Standard]: Optional. Transliteration standards:
  0. General standard. Selected by default.
  1. International standard ICAO (Doc 9303). Used for transliteration of international passports and driver's licenses.
  2. State standard ГОСТ 7.79-2000 (ISO 9).
  3. International standard BGN/PCGN (1944).
  4. International standard BGN/PCGN (1944) with replacement of word endings "ий" and "ый" with "y".

Example Usage

The TRANSLITRU() function is easy to use. Just enter any text in Russian and select the transliteration standard, and Excel (Calc) will automatically convert it to Latin:

=TRANSLITRU(Text; Standard)

In this example, the following values are used:

• Text: A2 - Text for transliteration ("Паниковский Михаил Самуэлевич").
• Standard: B2 - General transliteration standard (0).

You can use the TRANSLITRU() function by installing the YLC Utilities extension.

After that, this function will be available in all files that will be opened in Excel (LibreOffice Calc).
