NIKKEI225() Description

The NIKKEI225() function is designed to automatically retrieve stock prices of companies from the "NIKKEI 225" index traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange directly from the Yahoo Finance website (finance.yahoo.com) by a specified ticker symbol (e.g., 9202, 7201) and selected date. It supports both historical quotes and current real-time values.

This function is convenient for creating stock trackers in Excel (LibreOffice Calc) spreadsheets and will be useful for investors, traders, and financial analysts.

Key Features of the NIKKEI225 Function

Syntax:

=NIKKEI225(Ticker; [Date]; [Indicator])

Parameters:

• Ticker: Stock ticker symbol (e.g., "9202", "7201" or "9202.T", "7201.T"). You can also get the value of the entire index ("INDEX").
• [Date]: (Optional) Price date. By default, today's date value is used.
• [Indicator]: (Optional) Stock price indicator or trading volume ("open", "high", "low", "close", "adjclose", "volume"). By default, the closing price is used, i.e., "close" value.

Usage Example

Example 1

The NIKKEI225() function is simple to use. You just need to specify a cell with the stock code and Excel (Calc) will automatically import its price on the specified date:

=NIKKEI225(Ticker; Date)

We will get the following result:

In this example, the following values are used:

• Ticker: B3 - Cell containing the stock code ("9202").
• Date: C1 - Price date ("Aug 1, 2025").

Example 2

In this example, the following values are used:

• Ticker: B1 - Cell containing the stock code ("9202").
• Date: A5 - Price date ("Aug 1, 2025").
• Indicator: G4 - Value type (trading volume) ("volume").

How Does It Work?

The NIKKEI225() function can work both in normal mode and as an array function.

To use as an array, simply enter the function in any cell, specifying the appropriate parameters. After that, press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to enter the array formula, and LO Calc will automatically return a table with data.

To select all cells associated with the array formula, simply select any array cell and press Ctrl+/.

If you need to convert an array formula to value - select the entire array and in the menu Data > Calculate select Formula to Value.

When using a date as text, it must first be converted into a real date, for example: DATEVALUE("2026-01-25").

Ready-made Templates

You can also use ready-made templates to get a stock watchlist for the corresponding index or exchange.

To do this, go to the menu YLC Utilities > Template > Stock watchlist and select one of the following reports:

• NASDAQ (New York)
• CAC40 (Paris)
• FTSE100 (London)
• NIKKEI225 (Tokyo)
• DAX (Berlin)
• TSX (Toronto)
• HKSE (Hong Kong)
• ASX (Syndey)

After that, this function will be available in all files opened in Excel (LibreOffice Calc).
